Short answer, both.
Check out this event on Facebook. RSVP whatever you like. Just have a read at some of the wall posts and comments.
There seems to be a theme emerging. Australians (and to an extent, Americans) arguing about Soccer/Football. Which you say? Either. Some are complaining about the name, others complaining about which is better.
I’ll give a straight answer. All are codes of Football. All have their own rules, own governing body, own style of play. So what? Which is better? Neither. As I say, different skill sets, different ability – you cannot compare the sports (I include American Gridiron and rugby in my argument). Now you read some of those comments. Oh, how naive the people can be.
On to the real issue here. Giving Soccer a bad name. Which code is the true Football? No easy answer to that one either. Soccer is used colloquially. Much like “footy”. The term is used here because of AFL. Which guess what, is the governing body of Australian Rules Football. Yea, totally didn’t see that one coming. Australians deserve the right to call their own sport football, and why shouldn’t they? Its their rules. The same goes for any country. Confused? How about calling soccer, Association Football and AFL, Australian Rules Football. That should help you sort out the two.
Alright. So which is the true Football?
My answer: soccer.
Why? Because they actually use their feet.
That solves everything doesn’t it? I hope so.
What do you think? Give me a shout.
