30 Days of Gaming: Day 22

Day 22 – A game sequel which disappointed you.

Playing this game since the original, back on the PS1.. I had high hopes for this game.

Gran Turismo 5. Eventually released late 2010, this game was over-hyped, had a long production schedule (Gran Turismo PSP, I’m looking at you), delayed and somewhat buggy on release, upon other problems. A game like this would have been great if it had been released three years earlier than it was, but it came too late to make any significant impact in the gaming world. The final product felt lacking and it required a humongous install which took way too long. The cars were also disappointing, only a handful of “premium” cars and way too many “standard” cars – many being duplicates.

Two player play was also disappointing. You could only choose from a set of cars (or career “favourites”) and it was annoying trying to set consecutive races. If you’ve played the game, you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Then there’s the pricing. I thought the game (in Australia, anyway) cost WAY too much. The collector’s edition cost $130, and for what? A few extra cars that Japan eventually got for free at christmas and a book that isn’t worth the premium price.

Having bought this game, I haven’t picked it up in a while. Sad, really.
