A Window to the Past

I thought I would compile my favourite and most beloved tracks from the Harry Potter series. The books, movies and music will always be in my heart and I hope that you enjoy these as much as I do.

Hedwig’s Theme–John Williams

There is no denying John William’s brilliant mind and musical genius. Hedwig’s Theme fits Harry Potter’s world so perfectly. I love how variations of this theme exist and appear in every single film. My favourite bit is about 2:50 in.

Reunion of Friends–John Williams

An arrangement of Leaving Hogwarts. This beautiful theme plays at the end in the great hall where everyone welcomes Hagrid back to Hogwarts.

Buckbeak’s Flight-John Williams
A Window to the Past-John Williams

Two of the most beautiful tracks from the third movie. Very emotional and powerful.

Hogwarts Hymn-Patrick Doyle

John Williams is a tough act to follow, but Patrick Doyle does a very good job. Just listen.

Flight of the Order of the Phoenix-Nicholas Hooper
Dumbledore’s Army-Nicholas Hooper

Starts off reminiscent of A Window to the Past, but turns more upbeat and happy. It’s impossible not to feel happy when listening to this.

Fireworks-Nicholas Hooper

You know, George, I’ve always felt our futures lay outside the world of academic achievement.

Loved Ones and Leaving-Nicholas Hooper
Dumbledore’s Farewell-Nicholas Hooper

Had to include the actual scene for this one. Tear-jerking is the only way to describe this track. This scene gets me every single time.

Obliviate–Alexandre Desplat

I could listen to this on repeat, over and over. Just so beautiful and sad.

My Love is Always Here-Alexandre Desplat

Special mention: Plays during Harry and Hermione’s visit to Godric’s Hollow.

Lily’s Theme–Alexandre Desplat

I think the Deathly Hallows Part 2 probably has the most memorable tracks other than the first movie. Lily’s Theme is heard multiple times during the movie, as is Hedwig’s Theme.

Statues-Alexandre Desplat
Courtyard Apocalypse-Alexandre Desplat

Statues just makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Courtyard Apocalypse plays during the main part of the Battle of Hogwarts as the trio make their way to the boat house. Seeing Hogwarts being destroyed in front of your eyes makes it that much more emotional.

Severus and Lily-Alexandre Desplat

The track that plays during the greatest love story ever told. In the movie, it is combined with Dumbledore’s farewell and is the absolute perfect track for the Prince’s Tale.

A New Beginning-Alexandre Desplat

We did it, we bashed them wee Potter’s the one, and Voldy’s gone moldy, so now let’s have fun!

What better way to say farewell to the school one last time than with this beautiful theme.

Leaving Hogwarts-John Williams/Alexandre Desplat

And what better way to end the series with the John Williams classic. The first film ended with this playing as Harry gets on the Hogwarts Express to go back home. In the Epilogue, Harry is now sending the next generation of young witches and wizards off to Hogwarts – how appropriate this theme is for just that, and what a perfect way to pay tribute to the first movie and the legendary John Williams.

So what are your favourite tracks from the series? Let me know in the comments.
