As most of you know, I’ve been an Enforcer for PAX since 2013 which makes this year my fourth year of volunteering for the show.

So why do I keep coming back to it?

First of all, PAX is a great convention. It’s a celebration of all things gaming culture; including video games, tabletop games, music, and more.

Secondly, Enforcers are treated so well at PAX. We really are taken great care of, and the community built from Enforcers as well as Attendees of the show is really welcoming. I’ve met some amazing people Enforcing at PAX who have since become good friends of mine. Where else can I get that experience?

I’ve just started to think about what I love about volunteering so much after being accepted for a second year of volunteering at Oz Comic Con Perth. Last year pretty much broke me after three gruelling days, including two 12 hour shifts. I don’t think I’ll be doing two full days this year. I’m still looking forward to it though!

I’ve been volunteering for various events for quite a while. Back in high school, the state government actually introduced mandatory community service (24 hours I believe) into the curriculum which I easily completed. There’s just something really fulfilling about helping out at an event which you’re really passionate about and making it the best as possible for both yourself and for the people there. Going back to PAX, as an Enforcer I always felt like I had something to contribute. Last year I was promoted to deputy manager and I really felt I got the opportunity to make the show even greater.

I love volunteering and I’m super excited to come back to Melbourne again this November and to see all the friends that I do miss dearly.
