30 Days of Gaming: Day 10

Yay! We’re a third of the way through and up to Day 10 – Best gameplay.

For me, a game with good gameplay not only offers good controls, or ease of playing but the experience of playing the game must be good as well. And that game for me is an old favourite.

Worms Armageddon

I used to play the hell out of Worms Armageddon with my sister back on our old Windows 98 PC. The game was really fun and easy to get into.

The great thing is that it has elements of strategy as well as comedy and mischief; the recipe for a fun game.

The game was also quite customisable; you could make your own maps, set your own weapons scheme and name your teams and worms, as well as their appearances, grave stones and voice!

It’s hard not to like this game. It was a great way to have fun and play with your friends – and enjoy annihilating them with Holy Hand Grenades and Banana Bombs, and the ever so famous Prod.

Good gameplay? Look no further than WORMS!

30 Days of Gaming: Day 9

Day 9 – Saddest game scene.

“Hey, would you say I became a hero?”

The ending the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

There is no sadder ending than this one. Zack was one of the best main characters in a game. I could cry to this. I’ve played the game three times and seen the ending a few more. “Why” by Ayaka was also the perfect song to end with.

Cloud is nothing without Zack. When you play VII, you’ll see where Cloud’s personality and his memories come from. Where his sword came from. He’s his living legacy, and I’ll never forget that.

Zack and Cloud
“For the.. both of us. That’s right.. you’re gonna.. Live. You’ll be.. my living legacy. My honor, my dreams. They’re yours now.”

I also love how at the end, after the credits, you see the opening to Final Fantasy VII.

“My name is Cloud. SOLDIER, first class.”

30 Days of Gaming: Day 8

Day 8 – Best soundtrack.

I’m a big fan of great gaming music. It can add so much to the gameplay, the story and the characters.

Here’s what made my shortlist: (I haven’t included musical-oriented games in this list)

  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Greg Edmonson)
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Anamanaguchi)
  • LittleBigPlanet (Various)
  • Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Takeharu Ishimoto)
  • Final Fantasy XIII (Masashi Hamauzu)
  • Portal 2 (Various)

And there’s one more. My favourite.

By one of the greatest composers of all time, Nobuo Uematsu, “Final Fantasy VII” Original Sound Track is by far one of his best works. This soundtrack has many famous pieces and also has some the most recognised music in video game history; including Those Who Fight, J-E-N-O-V-A, Opening ~ Bombing Mission, Aerith’s Theme and most importantly, One-Winged Angel. Since FVII has been released, there have been other games and media that are a part of the compilation. For example, Crisis Core and Advent Children. The sounds of the original music still lives on in these OSTs. One-Winged Angel has also received great remakes.

I’d also like to give an honourable mention to Final Fantasy VI’s OST (also composed by Nobuo) for the great pieces Dancing Mad and Opera – Maria and Draco.

You’d be interested to know what happened when I met Nobuo Uematsu last month. A question you may be asking is what did I get signed? Well THIS one of course!

30 Days of Gaming: Day 7

One week up! Which means we’re a quarter of the way through this challenge.

Day 7 – Favourite game couple.

Zack and Aerith
"If you see Aerith, I’m counting on you to take care of her."

It was sooooo sad to see how this romance ended up in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. But after the events of the main game, it’s good to know they’re both together now in the Lifestream.

So what couple am I talking about? Zack Fair and Aerith Gainsborough. Forget Cloud, Zack and Aerith were always meant to be. If you’ve played the game, you’ll realise how close these two would have gotten if it weren’t for damn Shinra and the Turks. This made the already sad ending even sadder Sad smile.

Honourable mention to Nathan and Elena from Uncharted Smile with tongue out.

30 Days of Gaming: Day 6

Day 6 – Most annoying character.

You know it. There’s is always at least one annoying character in every game. In Minecraft, it’s the creepers. In Pokémon, it’s the legendary while you’re trying to catch it. In Plants vs. Zombies, it’s the, well, Zombies. In fighting games, it’s the characters which just spam the same move over and over (MvC3 anyone?). And in pretty much every other game, it’s the boss you’re trying to defeat.

I can only pick one however. This is the most recent annoying character I’ve come across.

Vanille from Final Fantasy XIII has got to be one of the most annoying characters you’ll ever know. She’s got this weird accent of sorts (apparently it’s supposed to be an Australian accent), and it’s annoying as hell. Which is bad because she talks a lot and even narrates the game at points.

In battle, she isn’t that useful though I did use her as a medic (I think) when I was playing through the first few chapters.

If you’ve played the game, you’ll probably feel the same way I do about her.

On a side note, Hope can be a little annoying too and even Lightning at times. But I forgive Lightning on the count of how awesome she is.

I think I have to say “Character Design: Tetsuya Nomura” again. lol :P

30 Days of Gaming: Day 5

Day 5 – Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were).

So I don’t think there is a character out there that is like me. If you know of one, please let me know!

Now the character I wish I was..

There’s a few. I’d like to be a character that has the cool gadgets or has awesome friends (not that I don’t have any) or has cool and awesome powers. I guess I could pick between Cole from Infamous. Who doesn’t want cool electrical powers that you can use for good or evil. Maybe Red from the original Pokémon. It would be so cool to have a life of training and battling with Pokémon!

Stretching this a bit, there’s characters like Harry Potter. Speaks for itself really. Smile with tongue out

Okay, remember where I said cool and awesome friends, gadgets and powers?

Cloud Strife

I think I’m obliged to say “Character Design: Tetsuya Nomura”

Cloud Strife. I was almost going to say Zack Fair, but probably if stayed alive. Cloud is the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII and just freakin’ awesome. Why? He’s got the most coolest friends: Barret, Tifa, Aerith? Who doesn’t want to be friends with them? Then he’s got this cool bike – seems like the funnest thing ever to be riding that. The Buster Sword! Originally owned by Angeal, it was passed down to Zack and then to Cloud. If you’ve seen Advent Children, you know how cool this sword looks when in use. And because it’s Final Fantasy, there’s also Materia, Chocobos, Moogles.. What more could you want?

30 Days of Gaming: Day 4

Starting to get into the rhythm now.. here is Day 4 – Your guilty pleasure game.

I wasn’t sure what kind of answer I was supposed to give at first, so I had to look around online to see what others thought. It seemed as though people were posting the kind of games they either didn’t want to be caught playing or what game they think they enjoy (and/or play) a little too much. So this is mine:

Pokémon HeartGold! Think I spent more time playing this Pokémon game than any other. And I’ve played games like Emerald and FireRed obsessively as well.

I think the main point is that I actually trained my Pokémon so that I could competitively battle. One of my good friends is actually pretty obsessive over this and I guess it rubbed on me. I spent AGES training up an Arcanine as a Special Attacker (I think). I also called him Flaér. And then when news came about of Pokémon Black and White, I sadly stopped picking up my DS to play Pokémon. Though I do sometimes have a look and to use it for random battles and trades with others.

So yea.. Pokémon!

Gotta catch ‘em all, right?

30 Days of Gaming: Day 3

Woo. We’ve made it to Day 3 – A game that is underrated.

I play lots of games, a lot of them are actually well received and played by many – not exactly underrated. I think it’s hard to actually determine what’s underrated, since it’s subjective.

Enough of that though, this is my answer:

Though not exactly underrated, I feel as though this game is not as appreciated as much as other “big” titles.

Developed by thatgamecompany, Flower is one of those experiences. It takes you on a ride – you play the role of a petal. You control the breeze to direct it around this dull, boring and lifeless field. As you awaken more flowers, things appear more vibrant and come to life. In short, this is a great gaming experience unique to this game. By the end of the journey (which is actually the title of their next game), the city’s come to life. The window sill the flower was sitting on is no longer lifeless and dull. This game will play on your emotions but by the end of this, you come out fresh and relaxed.

Yea.. More people need to play this beauty of a game. Smile

30 Days of Gaming: Day 2

Day 2 – Your favourite character.

This was a toughie.. my list of favourites in general includes the likes of Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Zack Fair (CC:FFVII) and Daxter (Jak trilogy). But you can only pick one, so my favourite character for this challenge is:

He’s the cute little critter from LittleBigPlanet. That picture above is my own Sackboy. What I love about him is how you can dress him up and make him act and do things in your own world. I also love how it’s your persona, and a representation of you.

So yea. Sackpeople FTW!

30 Days of Gaming: Day 1

So this is definitely something I can do..

I found this on a random blog site so I want to do it here.

This is the “challenge”. Basically, each day, I’ll post up a picture or screenshot that relates to what I’m up to in the 30 day list. (I’ll create a category for reference). Starting with day one:

Day 1 – Very first video game.

Okay so this was a loooooong time ago. But the first game I remember playing was:

Super Mario World

Super Mario World on SNES. Yep. Vague memories of this one but I do remember riding around on Yoshi haha..
